Bank President Delivers Donation, Learns About Needles and Stitches
SOLON, Maine – Skowhegan Savings President and CEO John Witherspoon visited Coolidge Library in Solon on Thursday, March 11, 2010 to present a $1000 donation to the library for much-needed repairs at the facility including upgrading the furnace and painting the historic wrought-iron fence in front of the building.
To mark the occasion and thank the Bank for the donation, members of the library's weekly knitting group gave a hands-on tutorial to Witherspoon in some of the basics of the craft.
"Our libraries are so much more than book depositories - they are community gathering places where knowledge is generously shared with friends old and new. We're happy to support the Coolidge Library so that the knitting group and so many others can continue to benefit from its resources," commented Witherspoon.
The donation is part of Skowhegan Savings' charitable giving program that provides funds to organizations that focus on economic and community development and financial literacy. Awards are made quarterly; the next application deadline is March 31, 2010. More details on how to apply are available on the Bank's Web site: http://skowsavings.com/charitable_donations.php.
