This is the first year that Skowhegan Savings will underwrite the event. The Bank had previously been a participating sponsor, but is determined to see the event grow. “River Fest and the Outdoor Expo is the region’s primary showcase for the outdoor recreation industry and a great demonstration of our world-class offerings,” noted John Witherspoon, president and CEO of Skowhegan Savings. “Given our commitment to seeing our communities and businesses thrive, supporting this annual event was a perfect match for us.”
River Fest and the Upper Kennebec Outdoor Expo began in 2007 as events to promote the Run of River Project. The Project’s mission is to preserve and enhance the Kennebec River Environment to benefit the physical and economic well-being of the greater Skowhegan area.
The Town of Skowhegan, Main Street Skowhegan and the Skowhegan Parks and Recreation Department are all partnering organizations for the events; participating food vendors include Heritage House Restaurant, Old Mill Pub, Southside Tavern, and T&B’s Celebration Center. The weekend festival is organized by the Run of River Committee, a ten-member volunteer group from various organizations and businesses in the region as well as other members of the community. Members include: Greg Dore, (Committee Chair), Gary Bailey, Karen Hart, Denise LeBlanc, Jeff McCabe, Chris Beeuwkes, Cory King and Craig Taylor.
All events are open to the public and nearly all are free-of-charge. The two concert events featuring Aztec Two Step and Emilia Dahlin on Friday evening at the Skowhegan Opera House and Rustic Overtones on Saturday evening at the River Fest Event Tent require tickets. Detailed concert and ticket information is available online at: www.skowsavings.com/riverfest.
Free parking is available in the downtown Skowhegan area and near event venues. Event schedules, vendor applications for the trade show/outdoor expo and more details are available at: www.skowsavings.com/riverfest.
