Skowhegan Savings Accepting Applications for Charitable Donations
SKOWHEGAN, Maine - Skowhegan Savings is now accepting applications for its second round of charitable
donations; the deadline is December 31, 2009. As a caring,
committed member of the communities where their customers
live, work, and raise their families, Skowhegan Savings
is committed to investing in the communities it serves.
The bank invests directly in local communities through
direct investments of money and time towards charitable
causes that help communities become better places to live
and work. Skowhegan Savings' donations will focus on Financial
Literacy and Economic and Community Development, such as
job creation, business retention, business growth, and
community enhancement.
Requests will be considered quarterly; after the December 31 deadline, the next
round of applicants will be due on March 31, 2010.
Decisions on funding will be based on the following:
- The bank will give priority to non-profit organizations.
- Priority will be given to investments whose benefits are focused within the communities
the bank serves: Skowhegan, Belgrade, Bingham, Dexter, Fairfield, Madison,
Norridgewock, and Pittsfield.
- Priority will be given to investments that have a broad impact both in terms
of communities served within the bank's service area, and number of people
benefitting.
- Community Reinvestment Act-qualified donations will have priority over donations
that do not qualify.
- Preference will be given to requests which have Skowhegan Savings as the only
bank sponsor.
- Skowhegan Savings prefers to donate no more than 20 percent of the total budget
of a fundraising campaign in order to assure broad based support.
- Priority will be given to those requests that give an opportunity for Skowhegan
Savings to get positive publicity and recognition within the community.
- Capital investments will have preference due to their long-term nature and one
time funding.
As a general rule, Skowhegan Savings does not make charitable contributions to
the following:
- Individuals or programs that benefit specific individuals (with exception of approved scholarship programs)
- Religious Organizations
- Labor Organizations
