Promise For The Future

Skowhegan Savings partnered with Bob Stuart, president of Yarmouth Educational Consultants, Inc., to lead workshops at the schools to answer student's questions about career paths, college selection, and the cost of higher education.

The goals of "Promise for the Future" are to ensure that all students know they can attend college, encourage them to explore their college opportunities before high school, to be an educational resource for students and parents of the communities served by the bank, and to promote communication between communities and their students about the opportunities a college education can create. Skowhegan Savings is proud to have offered "Promise for the Future" scholarships since 2001.

Collin Miller

Collin Miller is in Mrs. West's 5th grade class at Quimby Middle School. Collin's great grandfather was known for his pair of logging horses in Bingham, but Collin wants to drive a logging truck, like his Dad and his brother. Logging has been in their family for generations and Collin hopes to continue logging with his best friend Luke. Prior to working, he plans to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent to study forestry and truck driving, so he is prepared to run a skidder and is familiar with the forestry business so that he can keep the chain of forestry in his family. Congratulations, Collin.

Amanda Landry

Amanda Landry is in Mrs. Rollins' 6th grade class at Quimby Middle School. It used to be that Amanda could only sing in front of her Mom, Dad, and Kyla. But she conquered stage fright one day in front of hundreds of people and from that moment on she has never let her fears get in the way of her dreams. Amanda loves singing and has written many songs and would be thrilled if she could attend The Julliard School in New York City, one of the finest schools for music and performance in the world. She won this scholarship in 3rd grade and she won it again this year in 6th grade. Congratulations, Amanda.
