River Fest 2011 Dates and Events Announced;
Skowhegan Savings Underwrites the Annual Outdoor Recreation Festival

SKOWHEGAN, Maine - The 5th Annual River Fest and Upper Kennebec Valley Outdoor Expo will take place June 23-26 in downtown Skowhegan.The event offers a host of family-friendly entertainment including free rafting trips, a rock climbing wall, youth fishing tournament, 5K road race, evening canoe race, Glow Stick paddle on the Kennebec, recreation/outdoor adventure trade show and numerous concerts including performances by Emerald Sky, and Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations.

A group of rafters enjoy a free ride from Moxie Outdoor Adventures at River Fest 2010.

This is the second year that Skowhegan Savings will underwrite the event. "River Fest is a showcase for the potential of our region to be a major recreation destination," noted John Witherspoon, president and CEO of Skowhegan Savings. "Helping to highlight the opportunities and local businesses here through this event is a great way for us to support economic development that is based on our region's assets."

River Fest and the Upper Kennebec Outdoor Expo began in 2007 as events to promote the Run of River Project. The Project's mission is to preserve and enhance the Kennebec River environment to benefit the physical and economic well-being of the greater Skowhegan area.

The Run of River Project, Main Street Skowhegan, the Somerset Woods Trustees and the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce are all partnering sponsors for the events. Participating food vendors include Heritage House Restaurant, Old Mill Pub, Southside Tavern, Kniffen's and T&B's Celebration Center. The event is organized by the Run of River/River Fest Committee, a volunteer group from various organizations and businesses in the region as well as other members of the community. The River Fest committee  includes: Greg Dore, (Committee Chair), Gary Bailey, Karen Hart, Denise LeBlanc, Jeff McCabe, Kristie LeBlanc, Cory King, Bart Hughes, Cheri Savage, Jennifer Olsen and Steve Govoni.

All events are open to the public and nearly all are free-of-charge. Concerts featuring Emerald Sky, and Pat Colwell and the Sensations will require tickets that will be available at the venue just prior to the shows. Prices and details will be announced shortly and posted online.

Free parking is available in the downtown Skowhegan area and near event venues. Event schedules, vendor applications for the trade show/outdoor expo and more details are available at:www.skowsavings.com/riverfest.
